Mac and Cam, Dog Moments

by Abigail

Have you ever gotten a dog? What if that dog died? Would you get another dog?

My life was different after my sister got a dog. Before life with a dog, I would always beg my parents for a dog, but they would say, "It's too much responsibility. There's not enough room in the house. You aren't responsible enough."

I would think to myself, "I'm not responsible enough? I do everything around the house! I clean, do dishes, basically what my parents told my siblings to do. I was a good student. I got in trouble here and there, but not that much."

One day on Valentines Day (February 14th), my sister got a dog from her boyfriend.

"Happy Valentines Day, Amanda! I love you!" Marcellous exclaimed, handing the dog to my sister.

"A dog? You knew I always wanted a dog! Thank you, babe! I love you!" Amanda shouted while petting the dog gently.

"Aww! Who's this little guy? He's so cute! Now I want a dog! Whose dog is this?" A seven year old me began.

"Well this dog is ours and we're staying with you, so it's kind of your dog also," Amanda told seven year old me.

"Yay! I get to have a dog stay with me!" I yelled, petting the dog.

"What are you going to name it? And what kind of dog is he?" My brother Anthony questioned.

"I don't know, we'll worry about that later, and he is a Maltese mixed with Yorkie." Marcellous told Anthony.

Then a few days later, we went to McDonald's and named that dog Mac. After a life with a dog, I had a lot of responsibilities. I had to walk, watch, wash, feed, and run Mac.

A few years later, on a Thursday afternoon, I got home from 4th grade and Mac had escaped from the house. My sister and Marcellous weren't home so Anthony and I went to look for him. We couldn't go too far because it was already dark outside. We had no luck, we didn't find Mac. Then we went back home. The next day I went to school and told my friends to look out for Mac. When I got picked up from school, my dad found Mac, but he was dead. Mac got hit by a car. I felt sad, lonely, and crushed.

A few months later on July 1st, my sister's birthday, she got a new dog. She named that dog Cam. Cam is a Shi-Tzu mixed with Yorkie with light brown short fur, and flappy ears. I still have a lot of responsibilities with Cam. I'll try to watch out for the front door so Cam won't escape like Mac did. My advice would be if you have a dog, watch out for any areas where the dog can escape, and take good care of the dog. Now I know to keep a close eye out for my dog. My life is different now because I have even more responsibilities, but it's worth it.
