Streetside After School--Getting Bigger and Better!

In 2002, Streetside launched our Streetside After School program. In Streetside After School, young people polish their reading, writing and communication skills while telling their own stories and doing lots of great theater activities.

Since we began, we've worked with about 350 middle and elementary school students and partnered with afterschool programs all over The City, and in Oakland too. Students tell us that Streetside After School builds their confidence, creates a safe space where they can be heard by classmates and adults, and helps them read and write better.

Now, we're going to work with a whole lot more students. We just found out from DCYF (The San Francisco Department of Children, Youth and Their Families)that we got one of their wonderful Afterschool for All grants. The funding will help us expand our programming to youth ages 6-13 and serve 150 students every year. And as we expand, we're going to add media arts to the afterschool experience. Best of all, we'll be working with 150 more San Francisco youth every year!

We can't wait! Thanks, DCYF!
